Flying over the bluffs that encapsulate Tyler road, we approach the old Niagara water tower. Years ago, the hill next to it housed an old, ski hill that my Dad would go down as a kid. Following that is the Falls, a water feature built into the side of a hill that you can see when driving into Wisconsin from Michigan. Then, you get an up close look at the old water tower which proudly displays the name of this beautiful city. Then you’ll fly over Main Street heading towards the river just as rain is starting to trickle out of the sky. Turning back towards town, you’ll see the new Niagara water tower that’s in the Heights.

Niagara, Wisconsin, otherwise known as the city of scenic beauty, was the northern paradise that made me fall in love with the outdoors. What helped to shape this city into what it is was the efforts from former Mayor, George Bousley, who was mayor of Niagara for decades. He succeeded in officially establishing this town as a city, facilitating a project to revitalize Main Street and repave this busy junction to the north, and make it into a community people want to be a part of. His legacy in the city began as a mechanic at an Amoco gas station, and he worked his way up to becoming mayor. Under his tenure, every Governor of Wisconsin that was in office made a visit to Mayor Bousley—all except Governor Evers. This city wouldn’t be the way it is if it weren’t the pride of those who love Niagara working to keep it great.
I loved hearing my Grandpa George tell me stories about his city, hearing of the famous people that would get gas at his station, seeing the photos of the award ceremonies where they honored him. He loved his city, and my hope is that these photos and videos can capture even a fraction of how great it really is.
